Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is a chronic autoimmune condition in which the ingestion of gluten—a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye—triggers an immune response that damages the small intestine. This damage affects nutrient absorption, leading to symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue, and malnutrition. Long-term exposure to gluten can cause severe complications, including osteoporosis, infertility, and neurological disorders. While there is no cure, celiac disease is effectively managed with a strict gluten-free diet, which helps heal the intestinal lining and prevent further damage. Increased awareness and early diagnosis are key to improving the quality of life for individuals with celiac disease.
