Chagas Disease

Chagas Disease is a tropical parasitic illness caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, transmitted primarily by triatomine insects (kissing bugs). It progresses in two phases: an acute phase with mild or no symptoms, and a chronic phase that can lead to severe heart and digestive complications. It is endemic in Latin America but also occurs in non-endemic areas due to migration. Antiparasitic drugs like benznidazole and nifurtimox are effective during the acute phase, and ongoing research aims to improve treatment for chronic cases.
