Infectious Diseases
Infectious diseases, caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites, are a huge global health challenge. While diseases like COVID-19 and HIV get a lot of attention, many others—especially in low-income regions—don’t get enough funding. Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), for example, impact millions of people but often lack the resources needed to develop better treatments or vaccines. This is partly because pharmaceutical companies don’t see a financial incentive, and global health efforts tend to focus more on diseases affecting wealthier countries. This leaves vulnerable populations without the prevention or care they need.
